County Releases Statistics on Homelessness

The County of Orange on Wednesday released the results of the 2019 Point-In-Time Count. In January, volunteers fanned out across the County before dawn and after sundown to survey people experiencing homelessness.  Nearly 4,000 people experiencing homelessness were surveyed countywide, including 76 in Lake Forest.

City-specific statistics were not available Wednesday, but the countywide Point in Time Count also found:

  • 73 percent listed their last permanent address within Orange County
  • 51 percent considered themselves “chronically homeless”
  • 33 percent have substance-abuse issues
  • 31 percent have a physical disability

Lake Forest relies on a multi-pronged approach to homelessness, to balance the right and dignity of those experiencing homelessness with the safety and comfort of residents and business owners. See www.lakeforestca.gov/homelessresources for more on the City’s efforts.
