Youth Sports Programs


Small Fry Sluggers League

Where else will you find candy-themed teams for tots? Plus six weeks of T-Ball sportsmanship, skills, and overall fun! This program will include a t-shirt, hat, and participation award for each child. First meeting will be an informational meeting only. Practices will include 30 minutes of practice, followed by 30 minutes of scrimmages. The final day of the program will include the Big Game and BBQ.

Summer Kids' Factory

Kids' Factory will operate at 5 schools Monday through Friday, from June 26 through July 28. Trained recreation staff will conduct a variety of age appropriate activities, including crafts, table games, sports, and more! Children are permitted to enter and leave the premises at their own discretion unless otherwise specified by parents. Parents are responsible for providing any necessary transportation before and after the program. Kids' Factory is a FREE drop-in program which offers recreational activities and is not considered an accredited child care program. All activities are held outdoors and are subject to cancellation due to unfavorable weather conditions such as rain, wind, and extreme heat or cold. If weather conditions are questionable, you can check on the status of Kids' Factory sites by calling the Weather Hotline, 460-2735, after 8:00 AM.

Activities In Motion (AIM) Mobil Recreation Program

It'll be another hot summer in the City parks! Take advantage of the fun activities offered at the Activities in Motion (AIM) trailer all summer long. The AIM trailer encourages kids to come outside to participate in board games, caroms, sports, ping-pong, arts and crafts and a variety of other recreational activities all in the beautiful setting of a neighborhood park! When weather conditions are questionable, please call the Weather Hotline at 460-2735.

Music Together

Here is your chance to experience a nationwide, research-based "Music Together" program for children birth to 5 years old and the adults who love them!
Children will have many opportunities to create and play. Each class is packed with new songs, rhymes, movement activities and instrumental sessions. This is an introduction to a lifetime of musical enjoyment! But best of all it is fun!

Here's the ultimate babysitter preparation class! Not only will you become certified in Basic First Aid and Adult, Child and Infant CPR, but you'll also learn how to market your services, safely care for children, make healthy snacks, and entertain kids so that you'll be recognized as an awesome sitter that will be asked back again and again! Youth Kung Fu and Conditioning Class

Kung fu stresses self-discipline, self-defense and personal growth. Students will learn that life is about balance and self-discipline. With a balanced mind and body, all obstacles can be overcome and all goals met. Kung fu is not about winning or losing, it is about focus, enrichment and tolerance for others. This class will encourage self-control and respect for others. Classes are taught in a relaxed environment. Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing. Shoes are optional. Playing the guitar is an enjoyable way to enrich your life through music. This class is designed to build a strong foundation for people with no experience playing the guitar. Adult, Child & Infant CPR

The ability to perform CPR properly is a lifesaving skill that everyone could benefit from learning. This American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) course meets the requirements of OSHA and is EMSA approved for daycare providers. This course covers CPR and the Heimlich maneuver for adults, children and infants. In addition, each participant will have his/her own manikins on which to practice. Participants will receive a certification card which is valid for 2 years. Participants should bring a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Basic First Aid

Kung Fu: Self-Defense

Over the course of 16 structured classes, we will focus on self-defense, fitness and self-knowledge. Kung fu is a self-defense system and can save people's lives. It also strengthens tendons, stretches muscles and invigorates joints and tissues. Kung fu challenges your body and mind, cultivates self-discipline and increases strength and flexibility. Lau Kune Do utilizes the centerline theory and maximizes efficiency, directness, economy of motion and speed. Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing. Shoes are optional. In order to ensure quality instruction and comfort, there is a 15-student limit for this class. No class on Tuesday, July 4.

Tai Chi: Relaxation, Balance

and Stress Reduction Over the course of 16 structured classes, students will learn to cultivate their own internal energy and reduce stress the natural way with the flowing, gentle art of tai chi. This meditative art focuses on relaxation, stress reduction and returning the body to its natural state of balance. It can best be described as a motion- oriented combination of yoga and meditation. Students can expect their energy levels to skyrocket while their circulatory, nervous and respiratory systems strengthen and harmonize. Tai chi increases flexibility through simple stretching and helps galvanize the joints, tendons and bones from degenerating diseases, accidents or over-use. Reading with Fido
Children are invited to meet some special Doggy Friends at the library. Orange County Animal Services will give a brief speech on responsible pet ownership and afterwards children will get to take turns reading to a special pooch. Please call the library for sign up information.

The Foothill Ranch Library's Summer Reading Program will begin on Monday, June 26. Earn prizes while you read! "Read to Me" through "Teens" are encouraged to join. Any child in The Program is invited to "Wild Wednesdays" every Wednesday at 3:00 pm from June 28 - August 16 the library will host a special event or performance. These shows will feature puppets, magicians, animals, and much more.

FOR TEENS:


Teen Poetry Night - May 2, 7-8pm: The top three winners will be announced and awarded their prizes. In addition, contestants, winners, and any audience members are invited to read their own or others' poetry during the open mike period. Lastly, Orange County's very own Two Idiots Peddling Poetry will be performing their very own work for the third consecutive year. If you have missed them in the past, don't miss out this year. They are provocative and entertaining. Light refreshments will be served. The celebration will be held in the library community room.

Summer Reading Program - June 26 - August 19: Want to get something fun while reading for pleasure this summer? THEN THIS IS IT!!! Teens earn weekly incentives for their pleasure reading during the summer. As in the past, candy will be the answer! You can also write brief reviews of what you have read and earn chances to win a weekly prize, as well as, a grand prize. Two programs will be held in conjunction with the summer reading program, call for more details later about these programs.

Pages, the Foothill Ranch Library book club, welcomes you to share your thoughts on the following books with other adult members. The club meets on the second wednesday of the month from 7-8PM in the library's community room. Copies of the book are available at the library approximately one month prior to each meeting.
