The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) in partnership with Caltrans has begun to repave the 91 Express Lanes from about the 55 freeway in Anaheim to the Orange County/Riverside County line. Paid entirely by the 91 Express Lanes Capital Reserve Fund, this project will extend the pavement’s lifespan for decades to come and motorists will benefit from a safer and smoother commute.
Branded “The 91 Weekend Shift,” repaving is scheduled to occur approximately over 10 consecutive weekends, five weekends in each direction and one direction at a time. Paving will begin in the eastbound direction from about SR-55 to the county line. Once repaving is finished in the eastbound direction, crews will repave the 91 Express Lanes in the westbound direction, from about the county line to SR-55. This project requires the closure of the 91 Express Lanes, and the #1 general purpose lane.
Avoid traffic congestion, bypass delays, and most importantly, get to your destination on time by:
- Avoid the 91 Freeway between 55 and 71 freeways, if possible.
- Opt for alternate routes, like the 60, 10, 57, and 71 freeways.
- Take Metrolink, vanpool, or rideshare.
- Leave early and plan for longer travel times.
